I’ve been trying to figure out how to describe “Apple Tree” by why Bonnie ever since I saw them at Kilby Court last Thursday—trying to nail down what the song sounds like. In particular, what genre would it be? I know genre doesn’t really seem to matter much anymore, though pretentious hipsters persist and continue to gatekeep despite this paradigm shift toward the genreless.*

Chase Ford and the Gummy Boys released their debut EP, Howdy, today. I have a few thoughts on the EP, the Gummy Boys, and the chance I had to see them live in concert. These are those thoughts. 

Everyone’s favorite  ex-boyfriend,* future.exboyfriend released a song that is near and dear to my heart entitled “Self Sabotage.” Alternate title: story of my love life.

Silly goose university called. You got in!

This is my review of Vandergoose’s music video “If I Find Her.” Before I get to said review disguised simply as my top 5 favorite things about it, I must admit something: I want to refer to each member as a goose and multiple members as vandergeese, even though collectively they are Vandergoose.

With that in mind, here are my favorite things about the music video:

I first came across Sammy Brue when he was just a youngin’ singing about young love and being cooler than everyone. Because he was. Now, over half a decade later, he’s become hardened and cynical about love (unconfirmed) and the music industry (confirmed), but he’s back on his feet with a new EP, Dark Mode.

Abigail Thorson thinks she can pull a fast one on us. The first time I listened to “It’s Me Not You,” I thought for a second, maybe she’s finally turning the cliche on its head.* Maybe she’s really going after this person and saying, “It’s really not my fault. It’s your fault. It’s you, not me.”

Nicole Canaan’s album probably should have been considered for a Mommy in my year-end awards for Album of the Year, but sadly, I am just now getting the time to fully appreciate it.

I am navigating uncharted waters here, folks. Never have I once reviewed music for a literal child. While I feel this way around most of the local scene due to my advanced age, Carson is different. He’s 12.

I have been making year-end lists, sharing my top songs and albums of 2022, and I don’t know how I kept forgetting to include this song. “Lovers On The Run” by The Plastic Cherries should have been in the running for the Mommy's Song of the Year, and I just spaced it.
