FRESH FINDS
In the best song to have sabotage in the title since the Beastie Boys, future.exboyfriend come at us with an introspective tale about the self-destructive behavior we all tend to engage in from time to time—is what I would say if I were trying to be a stuffy music writer.
Now, let’s ask ourselves, is it self sabotage or is it having fun? Never forget: a wise man named Julian Casablancas once said, “You Only Live Once.” "Self Sabotage" is like a trip and a half condensed into just over three minutes. It’s about as fun and wild as all the self-destructive tendencies mentioned in the lyrics. Never would I ever advocate for such activities, but throw caution to the wind every once in a while. Live a little. Make yourself wonder why you woke up in a dumpster that one Sunday morning. Move over Maroon 5, my Sunday mornings look a little different than yours. Rain is still falling, but while you’re driving slow, I’m wondering what happened last night, loathing to watch the videos my friends took to jog my memory. Never fear, though. Worst case scenario, you have a lot of great material for your next song, baby! We wouldn't have this song without it. Always remember where you came from. Everyone may say they want a love song, but everyone can relate to self sabotage.
*might not be true for all people, and aspirational others—such as myself
