LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: ALEX NUNTAPREDA

What happens when a generation of kids who grew up listening to emo/pop punk music actually grows up? What kind of music do they make?

Well, emo certainly grew up, but it was never just a phase.

Picture the following:

• Tom Delonge out in the rain for the music video of "There Is" by Box Car Racer
• The swoop of Pete Wentz’s hair across his face and the spikes that protrude behind him
• The eyeliner of Gerard Way and Billie Joe Armstrong
• Sweatbands on wrists
• Guys wearing women’s skinny jeans because men's skinny jeans haven’t been mass-produced yet
• The softer side of the emo/pop punk movement: The Academy Is…, Boys Like Girls,  Mayday Parade, etc.
• And one huge dose of mopey, emo feelings.

Now that you’ve got this picture in your head, take all of it—all of the emo in all of its shapes and sizes—and put it in a blender like it’s a “Will it blend?” YouTube video. Once it’s all nice and blended, put it into a CD burner. I know it sounds crazy, but just do it. Then, copy it onto one of the many blank CDs you have from that stack of 100 sitting next to your desktop computer. You know the one. The one with the semi transparent cover over it. And when that cd is done burning in 20 min, put said CD into your 2005 Honda Civic, and it will produce a sound similar to—if not exactly like—Alex Nuntapreda's  debut single "Love Me."
