HEARTBREAK NEWS BY ENGLISH BUDGIES

The first time I heard this song was a clip that starts with the drum fill that leads into the chorus. And I, in my ignorance for all music, thought for a split second, is this a cover of “Everywhere You Look,” the Full House theme song?

It’s giving guy who has only listened to the Full House theme song listening to his second song. But do I think these songs sound anything alike? No. Do I think the drum fills even sound remotely alike? Also, no. And even so, I stand by it. I will never not think of Full House when I listen to this song.

Luckily for the English Budgies, I like “Heartbreak News” a lot more than “Everywhere You Look.” There’s something haunting about the vocals, not in an airy, slurred indie girl kind of way that has dominated music for the last decade. This is more powerful. Like imagine if Cher sang Alanis Morissette. That kind of power index. 

​With that, I’ve said enough unhinged things for one review, and for the sake of everyone that reads this blog, I’ll leave you be to go about your day imagining what it would sound like if Cher covered an Alanis Morissette song. I apologize for the hot takes, but ultimately I don’t mean it.
