TOp ten Lists

Everyone loves a good list. My friends have a tradition where every year we share our top ten albums of the year on a big email chain. It's become one of my favorite traditions, to the point where I am giddy with anticipation months in advance. It's a big reason why I started this blog.

This page is for those top ten lists, as well as any other top ten list we can think up. The takes can get pretty damn spicy, so get ready. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
DISCLAIMER: All lists are subjective, but if you disagree with us, you have two options: You can either 1) fight us to the death in trial by combat to decide who is right, or 2) admit you're wrong because deep down you know it's true.

I have been looking forward to this for the last few months. With Ed sending his out earlier today, I knew I would not be able to get to sleep until I had finalized mine as well. This year has sucked in so many different ways, but music was not one of them. Thank the Lord. Without further ado, my Top 10 of 2020:
  1. The New Abnormal by The Strokes. This comeback album by The Strokes was everything I needed and everything I could have ever hoped for from them. It is 100% pure Strokes and classic Julian Casablancas, who, if we are all being completely honest with ourselves, has one of the coolest names for a front man of any band ever (who didn’t even have to change his name).
  2. Shore by Fleet Foxes. This album was a delightful surprise this year. It’s just a great, easy listen. If you don’t like it, there might be something wrong with you.
  3. Normal People (Original Score from the Television Series) by Stephen Rennicks. I’m taking a page out of Ed’s playbook and going with the Original Score/Soundtrack of a TV Series/Movie. If you have not seen this limited series on Hulu, you should. I think I cried or teared up multiple times. Great show. Phenomenal soundtrack.
  4. Saint Cloud by Waxahatchee. There was an period of time during this year where I listened to nothing but this album, Shore (see above) and Brandi Carlile’s 2018 album By The Way, I Forgive You, and it was quite possibly the most content I have ever felt for such an extended period of time in my life.
  5. Wake UP! by Hazel English. Just a damn good album. Give Off My Mind and Combat a listen at the very least.
  6. Honeymoon by Beach Bunny. Just a fun, upbeat album. Super solid surf rock.
  7. Swimmer by Tennis. I love her voice. It’s that simple. There are better songs on the album but Matrimony II is a sneaky good one that kind of goes under the radar.
  8. Women In Music Pt. III by HAIM.
  9. And It’s Still Alright by Nathaniel Rateliff. The title track alone is what puts this in my Top 10. He does an episode of Broken Record about this album and talks a lot about this song. I think I cried.
  10. Folklore by Taylor Swift. Some of you will have to forgive me, but I am not actually that big of a Taylor Swift fan. Regardless, this is a very good album, and I’m a huge fan of The National, so this gets the #10 spot.

Honorable Mentions:
  • Everything Else Has Gone Wrong by Bombay Bicycle Club
  • Jump Rope Gazers by The Beths. This is an album that I loved when I listened to it, and honestly just need to go back and listen to it more.
  • Deep Down Happy by Sports Team. Incredibly fun. Incredibly British (Songs: Here’s the Thing and Camel Crew)
  • color theory by Soccer Mommy

Love y'all,

-Seth
